Eyes Like Stars + Princess Of The Midnight Ball Book Reviews

Hey, what up?

So quickly, here's to deal with Ellen.  The rumor is that when Ellen signed with Covergirl she asked to find alternative ways rather than testing animals. The only thing I found out was that Covergirl is trying different techniques and steering away from animal testing--didn't say if Ellen influenced them.  However, still implying that they are somewhat still animal testing.  SEE ARTICLE HERE.
I'm still disappointed in Ellen.  She is a well known advocate for animal rights; why would she still sign up with a company who still does this?

But well, it could be worse.

Eyes like Stars by Lisa Mantchev
"All the world's her stage. Beatrice Shakespeare Smith is not an actress, yet she lives in a theater.  She's not an orphan, but she has no parents.  She knows every part, but she has no lines of her own.  Until now. Welcome to the Théâtre Illuminata, where the character of every play ever written can be found behind the curtain. They were born to play their parts, and are bound to the Theatre by The Book--an ancient and magical tome of scripts.  Bertie is not one of them, but they are her family...and she about to lose them all and the only home she has ever known."
(4/5)

Eyes like Stars was extremely confusing during the first sitting.  And the second. Then the third.  I think about the 6th I was getting the hang of it. It's very much written for those literary fanatics.  Like Shakespeare fans and Thespians and such. After that first chapter, your mind is spinning.  What just happened?
It takes a moment to realize that everything in this book is almost like a cartoon.  Realistic circumstances aren't here in this book.  And for me, that took some getting use to.
the characters are neat.  Very much like their play-written parts, only more developed and refined.  Well done.
Creativity and witt are very much the best I've ever read.  Though, if you haven't read or seen any of these plays: The Tempest, HamletA Midsummer Night's Dream, then you're going to be really confuddled.
Highly recommended for people who are fans of Shakespeare or hunger for new, creative plots.

Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George
"Princess Rose is the eldest of the twelve sisters condemned to dance each night for the wicked King Under Stone in his palace deep within the earth.  It is a curse that has haunted the girls since their birth--and only death will set them free.  Then Rose meets Galen, a young soldier-turned-gardener with an eye for adventure and resolve that matches her own, and freedom suddenly begins to seem a little less impossible. To defeat the king and his dark court, they will need one invisibility cloak, a black wool chain knit with enchanted silver needles, and the most critical ingredient of all--true love."
(3 1/2 /5)

Based off The Twelve Dancing Princesses, this book was not at all surprising or awe-inspiring.  It was..okay. Narrative is mostly of Galen, which is kind of disappointing, but not disheartening. I liked the spin she took on this classic story; it really rounded the classic story out.
The writing was normal, not fancy, but not "bleeeh".  I wish she would have added more color to their speech.  In the time period she has them in, it really should have been more in the language they used instead of modernized.
The characters were good. Kind of lacked description, but that's where imagination kicks in. ;)
Really, there isn't much else to say about this one.  Really it's just a book to pass the time with.  Recommended to anyone one with a taste for romance or is a bit bored.

Hope you enjoyed.

Got any books to recommend?

Loved your reviews. Eyes like Stars is definitely my kind of book. I love books that challenges its readers. Is it old? Would it be available at such retailers as Big W and Target?
I recommend Halo by Alexandra Adornetto. It's perhaps my favourite book right now, you should definitely check it out :)
